How To Get Started
Bedlington Terriers may begin competing in AKC Rally at 6 months of age. Dogs must be AKC-registered. Rally offers multiple levels, starting with beginner-friendly courses that allow handlers to speak to and encourage their dogs throughout the run.
TRAINING for rally focuses on building strong foundation skills such as loose-leash walking, attention, and smooth transitions between behaviors. Positive reinforcement works especially well for Bedlingtons, helping maintain enthusiasm and confidence. Because rally signs change from course to course, training also keeps the dog mentally engaged and adaptable. Short, upbeat training sessions help Bedlingtons stay focused while preventing boredom. As skills develop, teams can gradually increase precision and complexity.
RALLY TRIAL the dog and handler move through the course at their own pace, performing each exercise as indicated by the signs.
