Hiking With Your Bedlington

Find A Road Less Traveled

Hiking with your Bedlington Terrier is a wonderful way to share adventure while keeping both mind and body active. Bedlingtons are athletic, curious, and surprisingly hardy, making them excellent trail companions for moderate hikes. Their keen noses and alert nature mean every new path is full of excitement, while their graceful movement allows them to cover ground efficiently without tiring quickly.

Safety is key to keeping hiking fun. Always keep your Bedlington on a leash unless the area is explicitly off-leash, and your Bedlington is very well trained, as their terrier instincts can kick in if wildlife appears.   Squirrel!!!   Carry plenty of fresh water for both of you, since their light coat doesn’t protect them well from heat, and plan hikes during cooler parts of the day. Check paws often for burrs, sharp stones, or wear, and consider a lightweight vest or jacket in colder weather. After the hike, a quick grooming check helps remove debris and prevents skin irritation.

With a little preparation, hiking becomes more than exercise—it’s a bonding experience that satisfies your Bedlington Terrier’s natural curiosity while building confidence, trust, and a lifelong love of the outdoors.
