VetGen Laboratories* now identifies dog tested for Inherited Copper Toxicosis as one of the following:
CLEAR: As tested by VetGen Labs a dog tested as CLEAR carries two copies of the normal gene and will not develop copper toxicosis themselves caused by the known deletion in the COMMD1 gene or pass this mutation along to its offspring.
CARRIER: As tested by VetGen Labs a dog tested as a CARRIER has one copy of the normal gene and one copy of the mutated COMMD1 gene. Dogs identified as carriers will not themselves develop copper toxicosis caused by this mutation but if bred will pass on the mutation to approximately 50% of their offspring.
AFFECTED: As tested by VetGen Labs a dog tested as AFFECTED has two copies of the mutant gene and has the copper toxicosis disease.

*VetGen is no longer offering testing for Inherited Copper Toxicosis. The BTCA is currently working to recommend a new lab for testing.
