Ultimately, I think we all agree on the destination.
We want healthy Bedlington Terriers.
We want to preserve genetic diversity.
We want breeding recommendations based on sound science.
Science advances by replacing assumptions with evidence.
But belief—even well-supported belief—is not the same as measured evidence. Currently, we do not have measured evidence specific to the Bedlington Terrier. We can only extrapolate what we know is true in other breeds and apply it to the Bedlington.
That transition—from “we believe” to “we know”—is how good science serves our breed.
